YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S7 E24 "Uncommon Bond"

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop: Just because your friends have more in common with each other than with you doesn't mean their friendship is more meaningful than the one you share with them.
    • Quite a few this go around, considering both Sunburst and Starlight's behavior. Make new friends, but keep the old; don't get so caught up in the excitement of visiting someplace fun that you're rude to your host; don't be afraid to just tell someone if they're hurting your feelings.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Sunburst refusing to play Dragon Pit through Starlight’s childhood spell. Was it really because he had no desire to relive the past or that he actually did want to but didn’t want to risk the chance of the newly created spell breaking the fabric of time and space?
  • Fanfic Fuel: Starlight creating a spell that not only is able to recreate childhood memories, but also make herself and other ponies appear younger.
  • Genius Bonus:
    • Sunburst and Twilight quote an Old Ponish saying "Hliet foresettan pliht" that they say roughly translates as "reward prefers risk", and admit it loses something in the translation. They're actually speaking Old English, and it's a fair approximation of the well-known proverb "fortune favors the bold."
    • Maud is right about pumice being light enough to use to make a giant die; it's extremely porous and can actually float on water.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Sunburst's positive chemistry with Twilight Sparkle, Trixie, and Maud has really put the Starlight+Sunburst pairing on a big run for its money.
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: Starlight+Sunburst fans are not pleased to see Sunburst hitting it off with three other mares in this episode.
  • Tainted by the Preview: When the synopsis revealed that this is another episode centered around Starlight, some fans were turned off, given her growing bad reputation as a Spotlight-Stealing Squad and the fact that the wounds from her appearance in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Magical Movie Night were still fresh.
