YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S6 E3 "The Gift of the Maud Pie"

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Some fans think Pinkie Pie is way too excited to be reunited with her party cannon. Seen here.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Was Rarity "embellishing" her description of Maud's mood for better effect, or was she just getting better at reading the signs of Maud's all-too-real anger?
  • Designated Hero: The way Rarity and Maud resolve the conflict isn't that heroic. They make vague, but still intimidating threats at the street hustler until he breaks down crying from fear, in order to force him to accept a trade he doesn't want to. The whole scene is somewhat reminiscent of a mugging, despite the fact that the victim gets his pouch back. Granted, they seemingly don't intend to actually do any harm and they do give back the rock pouch.
  • Designated Villain: We're supposed to side against the street hustler, even though he didn't really do anything crooked or wrong. It was a completely legitimate and fair trade that got Pinkie what she wanted, and Pinkie wilfully went through with it due to her own Pride and desperately wanting to show up Maud's gift. He's shady-looking, but he's no crook.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The police mare that fans have called "Hot Fuzz" or alternatively "Copper Top".
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • What could Pinkie's days with Limestone and Marble be like?
      • Not to mention what type of Spider-Sense abilities Limestone and Marble possess, if each of the Pie sisters have their own unique "Sense".
    • What was that shady pony going to use Pinkie's party cannon for?
    • Boulder has a cousin, but we don't know who it is. On top of that, what was the full story of Maud finding Boulder?
  • Genius Bonus: Compared to her mention of carborundumnote  in "Hearthbreakers", Maud's rocktorate studies have advanced far beyond what's covered in "Rocks for Jocks" courses.
    • Only a geologist or somepony studying for a rocktorate would notice the difference between marble and nepheline syenite in bathroom tiles.
    • The way Maud talks about the sidewalk fissure being an example of thermal expansion and soil settlement makes perfect sense. Anyone that has studied soil mechanics knows how important (and headache-inducing) these two effects are when it comes to paving, especially monolithic paving like Manehattan seems to have.
    • Maud asking Rarity if she sees "the exposed chalcedony in the fissure" and Rarity's bewildered "Probably?" drives home the fact that Maud knows a lot more about rocks and soil mechanics than the average pony.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: This episode has Pinkie Pie using the phrase "five-ever" as a unit of time longer than forever, and premiered more than a year after this GMod Pony video was uploaded.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Maud tracking down the hustler. Psychic Powers doesn't begin to describe how she knows where he is and where he will go.
