YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S6 E11 "Applejack’s 'Day' Off"

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: Mr. Cake getting an ashiatsu massage. In many parts of the US, this practice is mostly found in Asian massage parlors, which usually provide services associated with The Oldest Profession. The fact that all the spa employees seem to be expatriates of Equestria's equivalent of Eastern Europe doesn't help, since such massage parlors in Real Life often rely on human trafficking.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Applejack's characterization in the episode. While she's normally very competent and efficient (as shown in the spa), some fans complain that her Complexity Addiction about her works in the farm is totally Out of Character. Others find it funny.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The synopsis alone has inspired many a Rarijack slashfic.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Fans seeing Aloe kissing Rarity on both cheeks rather than accepting it as a typical European greeting. "There! Right There!" from Legally Blonde has been used for many PMVs since the early days of the fandom, and "They both say things like 'Ciao Bella!' while they kiss you on both cheeks".
  • Les Yay:
    • Aloe with Rarity. She calls Rarity "her favorite" and kisses her on the cheek twice, while she just gives a hug to Applejack.
    • The episode is basically about Rarity sulking because Applejack keeps missing their dates because the farm keeps her too busy. Frequent mentions of them not being able to spend enough time together ensue, with Rarity being particularly put out about it.
  • Memetic Mutation: The steam gauge's design bears a resemblance to a face, causing it to receive plenty of attention and several edits from fans.
  • Mis-blamed: Much like Princess Spike before it, fans were quick to blame writer Neal Dusedau and Neal Dusedau only for how the episode turned out, when in actuality he wasn’t even a writer on the episode, just a story consultant. The episode was really written by newcomers Michael P. and Will Fox. In fact, they too help conceptualized the story with Neal.
  • Padding: One of the biggest criticisms amongst fans is that the 2nd act spends too much time on Applejack trying to find and fix the problem with the spa’s steam issue and it grinds the episode to a halt with many wishing there was something in there to spruce up the monotony.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus for the episode is this, particularly with its more laid-back pacing and decidedly low stakes.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Aloe's new accent is not well-received by most fans.
