YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (IDW) Issue 43 to 45

Go To

  • Ass Pull: Zecora realizes she can use Spike's scale to create an antidote for the evil water since he was unaffected despite swimming in it. However, no panel in the first issue of the arc shows Spike ever swimming in the water at all; one panel shows the Mane Six bathing while Spike watches from the shore, making it rather explicit he didn't partake himself.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: As Celestia sends Luna to Ponyville, she says as an aside "I just hope I haven't sent you back to temptation." This seems to imply Celestia knows something of what is going on and fears it will affect Luna as well. Despite ostensibly being there to foreshadowing Nightmare Moon's return, that and Luna returning to normal had nothing to do with her own temptation, making Celestia's comment a Red Herring. Furthermore, what is revealed about the water's origins does nothing to explain how Celestia may know what is going on, making her comment even more out of place.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: After seeing Celestia's Superpowered Evil Side, it turns out she had very, very good reason to keep herself from being directly involved.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Considering Starlight Glimmer's comics debut immediately followed the conclusion of this arc, it presents something of a missed opportunity; If Starlight had been brought in during this story, we could have seen her taking on her corrupted teacher to protect Ponyville. It would be an interesting reversal of their clash in "The Cutie Re-Mark," with Starlight as the hero and Twilight as the villain.
