YMMV / My Hero School Adventure is All Wrong, As Expected

Go To

  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Though Hikigaya has gotten plenty of Ship Tease with many female members of the cast, a quick look at the forums will show you that the Hikigaya/Yaoyorozu ship has the most supporters. Far above his canon romance with Yukinashita Yukino.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Aoyama Yuga is among the characters removed from the story to make room for the bunch from My Teenage Romantic Comedy is Wrong, as Expected, Then, it turns out that Touga Himiko has infiltrated the school by impersonating various students. Fast forward to the release of Chapter 336 of My Hero Academia, where it's revealed that Aoyama is The Mole, meaning that his absence in this story made it necessary for the League of Villains to arrange something else to get the intel they needed to attack the USJ, thus explaining Touga's early appearance here. Quite a few people congratulated Storybookknight on his "4-D chess skills."
    • Hikigaya's Hero Essay gives a pretty cynical formula on the best way to create the ideal hero by taking someone Quirkless and giving them incredible power, that is a clear deconstruction of Izuku Midoriya, who is the hero of My Hero Academia. He then goes on to describe the second-best method as taking someone who had an initially weak Quirk that turns out to be much more powerful than believed. This turns out to also be a pretty accurate deconstruction of Koichi Haimawari's development, who is the hero of the spin-off My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, and started out with only a simple movement Quirk that later revealed capable of battling a kaiju. Hikigaya thus thoroughly gave a Take That! to both protagonists of the entire franchise.
    • The more and more of All For One’s personality is revealed in the Final Arc the more appropriate this crossover tends to be as an idea. Specifically in how All For One’s obsession with becoming an "invincible Demon Lord", and his core delusion of believing the world operates on comic book/manga/light novel logic, reveals him to be ultimately nothing more than some edgy, middle-school Chuunibyou. Basically, he’s an evil Zaimokuza (who is also the page image for the trope), and so who better to oppose him as an enemy than Hachiman; who doesn’t pull his punches for Zaimokuza‘s feelings even as friends?
  • Ho Yay:
    • Hikigaya and Bakugo become close very quickly due to a mutual bull-headed drive to succeed.
    • As with canon, Hikigaya becomes very flustered whenever Totsuka is around even after his gender is revealed.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Very much like his OreGairu counterpart, being the Clueless Chick-Magnet that he is, Hachiman has managed to attract the attention of damn near every eligible bachelorette in the story (it would be easier to list the girls who haven't shown attraction to him). It's gotten so bad In-Universe that he's all but become a Memetic Sex God.
    • Midoriya turns into a downplayed example. While he doesn’t get much focus, it’s presumed his relationships with Uraraka and Asui are much the same as in canon, while this story also sees him getting along with Mirko after she takes him as an intern student. After it was revealed she still regularly visits him for sparring sessions after the internship, the readership exploded with all the shipping implications this generated.
  • Les Yay: Yukinashita and Yuigahama's relationship obviously has some sapphic undertones (especially with Yui being so open with physical affection), and a recent chapter showed Yukino becoming flustered over a cat heteromorph girl (reminding of Hikigaya's interaction with Totsuka).
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Mineta comes off much better here than in canon due to Hachiman getting his place in class 1-A, and therefore, giving him a major setback in his dream of becoming a hero. This has had the effect of making him more pitiable, a little more mature (thus reigning in his perversions), and has given him fewer things to be insufferably smug about. His Odd Couple partnership with Shinsou also helps.
