YMMV / My Brother's Husband

Go To

  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Yaichi asks Natsuki how he should call their situation, with the two of them actually being divorced and "the foreign friend" being his gay brother-in-law. Natsuki says that "family" should be enough.
    • Yaichi officially declaring Mike as a member of his family in front of his parents' grave, therefore fulfilling Ryoji's promise.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Yaichi's dream of Kana marrying another girl makes Riko's love for another Child named Kana that much funnier.
  • Iron Woobie: Yaichi lost his parents when he was young, and became distant with his twin brother before he died. Yet he couldn't feel strong emotions for their deaths for so long. It's only later on when he realized the stress his brother was in and then feels guilty about being so distant with him.
  • Moment of Awesome: Several times during the story, Yaichi has an Imagine Spot of the things he wants to say, but can't bring himself to. It happens again during his talk with Kana's teacher, looking like he's going to let the latter have his say. However, he actually goes through, stands up for Kana and Mike, proudly calling him his brother's husband, and that if a child is being ostracised for their family situation it's definitely none of their fault.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • When Mike mistakes Yaichi for Ryoji in his drunken stupor, he starts bawling how unfair it is that he died so soon.
    • Mike and Yaichi watching the photos of Ryoji's life with his husband.
    • Mike returning to Canada, and Kana becoming extremely gloomy for losing her beloved uncle.
    • The scene where two foreign tourists are turned away from a bathhouse because they have tattoos, which in Japan, mark a person as a gangster.
  • The Woobie: Mike acts loud and energetic most of the time, but when he's in more private situations it becomes clear that Ryoji's death hit him hard.
