YMMV / My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The whole damn album, but special mention goes to "Dark Fantasy", "Power", "All of the Lights", "Monster", "Devil In a New Dress", "Blame Game", and especially "Lost in the World"
  • Award Snub: The almost universal agreement when an album variously listed as the year's best wasn't even nominated for Album of the Year at the 2012 Grammys. Kanye was surprisingly ambivalent about the whole thing, speculating that dropping two albums in the same nomination cycle was what did him in.
  • Memetic Mutation: CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER?Explanation
  • Narm Charm: "So Appalled" is a great song, but one can't help but chuckle at how everyone (especially RZA) says the word "ridiculous".
  • Nightmare Fuel: The "Monster" video, which gained high amounts of controversy due to its horror-based imagery, from naked corpses to decapitated heads to the fact that the video starts with a shot of a dead woman hanging. No wonder it got banned on MTV and removed from Kanye's channel on YouTube.
  • Sacred Cow: Even those who hate Kanye West's music let alone Ye as a person will admit to liking this album, though you probably knew that already. Case in point: Anthony Fantano gave the album a 6/10 (twice mind you, as he still gave the record a 6/10 in a revisit of the album), feeling the album focused too much on West's life but praising the music and such. It has become a Never Live It Down moment where people endlessly remind him for daring to not give it the proper score it deserves, with Fantano either complaining about how people still remind him about it or even roll with the memes.
  • Tough Act to Follow: While Kanye's 2010s discography was generally well-received, none of them reached the unanimous praise of this album.
