  • Growing the Beard: The second season vastly improved on the first, focusing more on the non-sports side of things and including more poignant stories, like Joe Magician's Career-Ending Injury.
  • Nightmare Fuel: How about the little boy's flesh melting off during the Title Sequence? Something you see at the beginning of every single episode. Oh yeah, and that young boy is none other than Bones Justice himself.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?:
    • Not just the violence, which saw players getting decapitated or even disemboweled in a few extreme cases, but there's also some surprisingly strong language for a 90's cartoon at times. In the second season there's a couple episodes where a character gets away with saying "crap", and in a later one a teammate calls Thrasher a "skank".
    • Also some of the themes it tackled. While there were a few that were familiar from other cartoons of the era (drugs are bad, don't be sexist), there were some that were unusually sophisticated for a cartoon meant for a younger audience (believe it or not). Like know when it's time to stop doing something, your heroes aren't always who they appear to be, sometimes there's a situation with no ideal resolution, or the dangers of gambling or obsessive stalkers.
