• Strawman Has a Point: Though his ways of going about it are questionable and he did have some selfish reasons (he's trying to marry an elderly heiress), Rudi's ex-husband, Jeffrey, in the thirteenth episode, trying to have custody of Dick and Apple, considering what we've seen of Rudi's parenting and antics up until that episode, begs the question if they'd be better or, at least, not much worse off in his care.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The whole idea of Rudi scheming to take down Jenny and become the leader of the soccer moms gets dropped after the pilot episode unfortunately.
• The Woobie: Poor Dick and Apple. They're both genuinely good kids despite their pampered upbringing, but they have to contend with a Disappeared Dad, and a raging narcissist of a mother who cares about her designer shoes more than her own children, and they have to deal with a host of bullies when they move to the suburbs. Is it really any wonder Dick latched onto a convicted felon as a father figure and Apple considered a vending machine to be a better parent than her own mom?
