• Hilarious in Hindsight: When Applejack finds Pinkie's saddlebags, one of the items she discovers within is a rubber chicken. While it's perfectly in-character for Pinkie to have such a toy, the scene was nonetheless written well in advance of "Pinkie Pride", in which Pinkie is given a rubber chicken named Boneless. Since then, many readers have retroactively decided that the rubber chicken featured in this fic is, in fact, Boneless.
• Paranoia Fuel: Whatever the thing is that shows up some nights.
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Applejack isn't exactly a Scrappy, but she's the least popular pony out of the Mane Six. Putting her alone on an island where she can showcase her work ethic and survival skills is a great way to give her some attention.
• Spiritual Licensee: Surprisingly, the premise of Mother of Invention wouldn't be out of place as an entry in the Amnesia Franchise. While it doesn't pile on the horror nearly as much, it's still quite easy to draw the parallels: Applejack wakes up in an isolated location with no memory of how she got there. The now-abandoned island previously housed a mysterious organization, and was the site of horrific cruelty. Nothing Is Scarier abounds. Applejack's only option for escape is to search the island and uncover its secrets. And to top it all off, AJ has infrequent but terrifying encounters with a dangerous, nearly-invisible monster whose very presence erodes her sanity.
