YMMV / Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Kano is the sadistic leader of the Black Dragon clan and the ultimate Big Bad of the entire series. In the past, after managing to kill Kronika and take over her hourglass, Kano would rewrite history to be to his liking, for what is implied to be many times. In one timeline, he unleashes a horde of revenants onto Earth, resulting in Earthrealm becoming a barren wasteland with its few survivors scattered across remote villages. Kano installs himself as the "King" of Earthrealm and starts raiding villages one by one, killing off a majority of their inhabitants, along with anyone who so much as stands up to him, and forcing whoever was left to be a part of the Black Dragon. Kano would frequently force people in these villages to fight to the death for his own amusement; in one case, when one refused to kill the other, Kano killed her and then killed the loser, despite their expressions of gratitude. When Shang Tsung attempts to overthrow Kano, the latter brutally slaughters Shang Tsung while reveling in his kill, even using his underlings as human shields against Shang Tsung. When Kenshi attempts to free one of the villages Kano conquered, Kano chooses to brutally torture him before killing him, all for his twisted amusement.
  • Evil Is Cool:
    • Kano has been praised as the main villain due to his darkly witty charisma while being an absolutely sadistic bastard that proves to be a ruthless and hard to take down foe throughout the movie. He's also well liked by virtue of being something new rather than just Shang Tsung or Shao Khan again.
    • The rest of the Black Dragons (such as Tremor and Kabal) are no slouches either as they all prove to be just as ruthless as their leader and they all sport badass mad max-esque designs.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Kano's ending in 11 has him initially doing the things he does here but realizes that No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction, so he rewrites history to make it to where what he wants is always out of reach and while he does win a lot, when he loses it's something to savor. We see this desire to savor in full effect in this film, which includes turning Earthrealm into an apocalyptic hellscape, ravaging innocent people with revenants, and gruesomely killing Shang Tsung. Mortal Kombat 1 would also establish how this timeline is possible.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ron Yuan voices Kuai Liang in this film, previously having voiced Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 11. Come Mortal Kombat 1 the following year, Kuai Liang now is Scorpion (though Yuan wouldn't voice him).
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: It was much better received than Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, boasting a 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes against the previous movie's 50%.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: The people who didn't like Kronika will be pleased to know that she has a cameo in this film... as a skull still wearing her crown. Better yet, her skull is used as a door key to the hourglass room.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Although it was known that the Black Dragons were going to be the main antagonists this time around. Many people were none the less shocked by the inclusions of Kira, Kobra, and No-Face. As the former two hadn’t even appeared in the series since Armageddon and the latter not since his debut.
    • Perhaps an even more surprising inclusion to the Black Dragons' ranks, are easily Drahmin and Dariou. Not only are they both not exactly the most popular characters, but they hardly if ever interacted with anyone from the organization outside of matches in-game.
