YMMV / Mort the Chicken

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The last cutscene before the final bosses, a brief dance sequence featuring multicolored cubes, comes out of nowhere even for a game like this.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: General consensus is that the game is better enjoyed for its surreal and hilarious cutscenes, rather than its middle-of-the-road gameplay.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Inevitably gained one with Pizza Tower, since Mort the Chicken himself features in one of the levels as a full on game mechanic.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: One of the biggest criticisms of the game. At just 16 small levels followed by two boss fights, the game can be completed in a little over an hour or two depending on the player, feeling more like one or two worlds of a nonexistent larger game than a complete package.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Mort the Chicken scrapes by at below-average at best given its simplicity, poor controls, and short length, but its very weird premise, odd cutscenes, and excellent dry humor managed to garner it some ironic fans since its release.
  • Vindicated by History: Mort the Chicken as a video game was pretty much universally panned on its release, primarily due to the poor controls. However, more modern audiences have warmed up to the game and enjoyed its surrealist sense of humor in spite of (or perhaps because of, in some cases) the poor controls. The titular character's cameo in Pizza Tower 23 years later helped thrust the game back into public consciousness.
