• Award Snub: Had only a single Academy Award nomination, for Best Original Screenplay, which it lost.
• Awesome Music: "Now we will demonstrate the orchestration of Mr. Desplat's musical suite." The other songs are also excellent.
• Diagnosed by the Audience: Both kids are social misfits but Suzy has a history of going "berserk" and she finds a book of her parents titled Coping With The Very Troubled Child.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: It ain't the first time Bill Murray was in a film where someone gets struck by lightning.
  • In Manchester by the Sea, Suzy and Redford would end up together.
• One-Scene Wonder: Jason Schwartzman as Cousin Ben.
• Retroactive Recognition: A pre-Manchester by the Sea Lucas Hedges has a role in the film as Redford, alongside Kara Hayward once more (less scissor-stabbing this time).
• Shocking Moments: Oh, there's some. Like, say, the dog's dead body, everyone finding Sam and Suzy in the same tent, Sam getting struck by lightning, the dam water causing fireworks to blast in the scout commander's cabin, and finally, a bolt of lightning zapping off the rooftop that Sharp, Sam and Suzy were on, leaving them hanging on for dear life.

• What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: This is Wes Anderson after all. As charming and oftentimes adorable as the movie may be, there's still a little too much swearing as well as some Family-Unfriendly Violence such as a dog getting shot and killed with an arrow and a young boy getting stabbed with scissors (even though he had it coming), none of which is onscreen but the effects are still shown.
• The Woobie:
  • Scout Master Ward. He honestly loves his job and feels Sam's defection is due to his failure as a mentor. Then his entire troop defects to help Sam and and the head Khaki Scout fires him. Thankfully, Ward is reinstated after saving the head Khaki Scout. And he has a lady friend now.
  • Also Sam and Suzy. Particularly Sam; Suzy may be troubled, but at least she has loving parents.
