YMMV / Moonkitti

  • Anvilicious: "I Sort-of Spoil Spottedleaf's Heart" is very unsubtle about the fact that Spottedpaw was being groomed by Thistleclaw, detailing that it isn't Spottedpaw's fault and that she should have told the adults around her what was happening, and that the problem was with blatant and obvious pedophilia being portrayed in a romantic light instead of being portrayed as obviously wrong in a book series for children. Considering that many fans were more concerned about how this "ruined Thistleclaw's character" instead of the impact this book might have on children, Moonkitti's refusal to mince words or make a joke out of the situation is refreshing.
  • Awesome Art: While most of her art is cartoonish and utilitarian, "Bramblestar is Worse" shows off beautiful watercolor-esque illustrations for the various interactions between Bramblestar and Squirrelflight, showing just how skilled of an artist she is.
  • Bizarro Episode: "Warrior Cats as Drinks" is this to "Warrior Cats As...". The entire video falls into chaos from Moon having Firestar, her base, as Orange Fanta rather than plain water, a move based off of her spite from comments of the previous video insisting Firestar be Doritos instead of plain potato chips. The entire timeline falls apart as a result, some characters become non-liquid or even inedible substances, and other characters aren’t even from Warrior Cats (including her real life cats). The next installment, "Warrior Cats as Dogs", notes to the viewer that they "learned their lesson last time".
  • Broken Base: Her Bramblestar video is one of the most contentious she's made thus far. Fans who like Bramblestar argue that her analysis of the situation ignores or downplays how unnecessarily hostile Squirrelflight can be towards Bramblestar when he treats her neutrally, and how she often causes problems in their relationship by keeping secrets and going behind Bramblestar's back (this is partly accurate as while the analysis touches on both of these early on, it does leave out a few of the rude or hurtful things Squirrelflight says to Bramblestar). Those who agree with Moonkitti, meanwhile, will argue that Bramblestar has done his fair share of the same with far less severe consequences (ie, meeting with Hawkfrost and Tigerstar I in secret, something he knows to be wrong but which Squirrelflight inevitably chooses to forget about within a few moons, versus Squirrelflight lying to protect her sister and the Three, something she was essentially ordered to do by StarClan and which Bramblestar responds to by being cold and dismissive towards her about for seasons). Considering that her video helped to break the base in the general Warrior Cats fandom instead of just her viewerbase, that's saying something.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • When Moonkitti takes a moment aside at the end of "Rowanstar Rescue Mission" to thank all her viewers and patrons because the money she makes from a YouTube career was enough for her to quit her job of dog grooming, which she hated.
    • In "I spoil the Darkest Hour for everybody", Moonkitti finally drops the Obviously Evil nicknames for Bramblepaw when he disowns his father Tigerclaw.
"'You're not my real dad!' shouts Teenage... Death... No. Shouts Bramblepaw."
    • How often she dotes on her three cats, Ocelot, Pepper, and Alfie. It's obvious the kitties are adored.
    • The story behind Briarlight's recovery. Victoria Holmes had already planned out Briarpaw's disfigurement and eventual death, viewing it as a tragedy that would show the hardships of Warrior life. She had begun to write out the opening beats of Briarpaw's story, only for her cousin to suffer a terrible accident and be paralyzed and bedridden in much the same way Briarpaw was. Vicky, fearing that she had somehow willed the accident into being by writing about Briarpaw being paralyzed, changed her story, drawing inspiration from the techniques doctors used for her cousin to write about Briarpaw's slow and arduous recovery. As her cousin's health improved, so did Briarpaw's. Moonkitti makes no jokes while recounting the story, and while the Briarlight video itself can be rather bleak and melancholic at times, the story behind Briarlight's recovery is one spot of cathartic joy.
    • The end of "Stoneclan: Starclan". After an entire series of Skywing being a Cloudcuckoolander and reckless idiot, and Appleheart being the Only Sane Man, it all comes to a head when Sneezeslate is poisoned, and everyone suspects Skywing as the culprit. Of all the cats, Appleheart is the one to find Skywing, and the two have a genuine heart-to-heart conversation where Skywing reveals his insecurities. Despite being the person most likely to be annoyed by him, Appleheart comforts his friend, pointing out that everyone is worried about him and looking for him, and that he doesn't need to pull these reckless stunts to be worthy of attention and love. Appleheart then leaves him to it, but lets him know that when he's ready, Stoneclan will be waiting for him.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "Rowanstar joins ThunderClan" has the 'Tigerstar clones' (broad-shouldered brown tabby toms related to Tigerstar) being referred to as Tigerstar with a number after them, such as Bramblestar being called "Tigerstar 2". Less than a year later, Tigerheart’s Shadow would make Tigerstar II canon.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • From "I spoil The Rise of Scourge for everyone": "Jake is everyone's father. Jake is your father."
    • Thornclaw's status as 'the patrol guy', from "Ashfur Dies". While him being forgettable was already a common joke in the fandom, his nickname really only took off once she made it his main character trait.
    • The sprite of Bramblekit from "I spoil Rising Storm for everyone", and the nicknames given to him (especially 'Baby Murderface').
    • Her depiction of Ashfur with flowing blonde hair from "Ashfur AMV: Sixteen", a parody of the overly dark and edgy way many artists and animators portrayed the character at the time, has since then also become a well-known inside joke in the fandom.
    • Sol insulting Starclan and being 100% correct.
    • Referring to Squirrelflight as Squilf. While Kate Cary was the one to coin the phrase, Moonkitti was the one to spread it.
  • Mis-blamed: She was often mistaken as the person who wrote StarKitsProphcy in YouTube comments of the episodes, and not just the animator. As a result, in some episodes, she had to put a disclaimer that the story and opinions expressed were not hers and that she was animating the story because she thought it was funny.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Arguably, the point at which Dovewing's eyes are replaced with Xs representing the loss of her powers in "Once I Had".
    • Moonkitti's thorough and critical examination of "Spottedleaf's Heart", where she picks apart the steps Thistleclaw takes to groom Spottedpaw and how a vulnerable child was taken advantage of- in a book series for children.
Moonkitti, narrating: Now, again, let's address something. If an adult tells you not to tell anyone that you're meeting them, or to not tell anyone that they like you, or to not tell anyone that they spoke with you- you tell someone! You tell your parents or your teachers. Spottedpaw should've told her leader or her mentor. Spottedpaw didn't know any better, she trusted Thistleclaw, and that's what makes this book so horrifying.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • "Once I Had," a slow, eerie requiem for Dovewing, Jayfeather, and Lionblaze's lost powers that perfectly captures the subsequent emptiness and loss after they've won the great battle and StarClan has no more use for them. They're left adrift, unsure of what to do now that their destinies are fulfilled, and trying to cope to their new vulnerabilities. Turns into Heartwarming Moments by the end with the Three finding solace with their mothers (Leafpool healing Lionblaze's wound, Dovewing nuzzling Whitewing, and Squirrelflight looking up at Jayfeather).
    • In her Multi-Animator Project part for "I Was So Sure", Jayfeather breaks down into tears upon realizing that he can't save Briarlight, and buries his muzzle in her fur.
    • Much of "Bramblestar is Worse." An hour-long breakdown of Bramblestar and Squirrelflight's relationship, it's already terribly sad in its own right, pointing out all the times Squirrelflight is miserable around Bramblestar, desperately longing for his love, and in later books, constantly filtering her own wants through a filter of shame and guilt. But it's the last line that's the kicker.
Moonkitti: I guess on some level I want justice for my little red cat, but it's already much too late for any justice for Squirrelflight.
    • Moonkitti's follow-up to her Bramblestar video has multiple moments.
      • She admits that she was harassed for months following the Bramblestar video, and that it only lessened slightly when she opened up about the abuse slung her way on Twitter. Mind, it didn't stop, merely slowed, and she asks her viewers to please keep in mind that she's a person too, one without dental insurance who makes her living doing cat videos.
      • She talks about why she was an Ashfur apologist in her teens- namely that she was a bullied child dealing with chronic illness who didn't leave the house for months, and that she shared similar experiences to Ashfur, causing her to latch onto him as a comfort character.
      • The moment where Moonkitti thoroughly deconstructs the idea that Squirrelflight should have to choose between two abusive and controlling men, and how putting the onus on Squirrelflight to walk on eggshells around her partner is malicious Victim-Blaming.
    • "Talking: Briarlight" is a painful 40-minute breakdown of how unfailingly positive and fun Briarlight was as a character, how close she was with Jayfeather, how richly she served the narrative, how unfairly she was treated by characters around her, and how little of a reason there was for her to be killed off.
    • Skywing's confession in "Stoneclan: Starclan". After an entire series of being a Cloudcuckoolander who mostly caused problems on purpose, he's suspected as being the main culprit in Sneezeslate's murder. As the clan searches for Skywing, it quickly becomes apparent that he's The Friend Nobody Likes, with Maplespots even stating that she's glad he's disappeared. Appleheart (before this being the sole voice of reason against Skywing) finds Skywing up a tree, where he proposes that the two just hang out for a bit. Skywing initially deflects and plays it off as a joke, but when Appleheart dips into Sincerity Mode, Skywing opens up about how he feels unloved and out of touch with everyone, and that he only acts up because it's the only way he can get any attention. He's insecure, constantly putting himself in danger, and only wants people to acknowledge him, and at the end of it all he's become such a pariah that he would rather hide in a tree than meet with his clanmates. Luckily, it turns into a Crowning Moment of Heartwarming when Appleheart reassures him, telling him that despite everything, his clan loves him, and just wants him to come home.
    • In " Various Tangential Reasons I'm Worried Squirrelflight Won't Make It" Moonkitti goes into a little detail of an abusive relationship she was in when she was younger. While she's in a much healthier place now and the relationship no longer holds any power over her, she was still abused and mistreated by an older adult who would deliberately set up situations designed to punish her. She even states that the reason she continues to talk about how Bramblestar is abusive towards Squirrelflight is that she can't help but see her own experiences in the books, and that the books either forgive or excuse Bramblestar's behavior while punishing or demonizing Squirrelflight for trying to keep her independence and morality is deeply upsetting and reads like Victim-Blaming.
Moonkitti, text: The reason I am always so worked up about characters showcasing abusive behaviors within these books is because of my own experiences.
  • Ugly Cute: Evil Giraffe, the dog she created in Petz 5 that also serves as her icon.
