YMMV / Monk S3E4 "Mr. Monk Gets Fired"

• Special Effect Failure: In order to properly preserve the twist regarding Commissioner Brooks' toupee, the producers hired an actor with a full head of hair and then gave him a bald cap near the end, rather than hiring a bald(ing) actor and giving him a wig to wear for most of the episode. Unfortunately, said bald cap is less than convincing and looks like something you'd find at a cheap joke store.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Monk is left devastated when he hears about the commissioner has decided to fire Monk because he accidentally deleted ten years’ worth of forensic files. Stottlemeyer stated that the office has backups of the files, but the commissioner is clearly using Monk’s little screwup to punish him for something unrelated to the case. Monk is clearly having a hard time trying to find something else to do for a living. While at the park, he encounters a man cleaning up and he used to have a better job before he was fired as well.
  • Monk’s response after his job interview. Sharona thought Monk was unsuccessful with the interview, but it turns out he was offered the job. Sharona is happy for him, but Monk is too despondent to be happy. He was almost ready to somberly accept he wouldn’t be able to work as a cop again. His reaction isn’t too far off from people who had been fired from a job they really enjoyed doing.
