• Harsher in Hindsight: In-story, Aisha stating at the end that she, Shawna, and Kimberly would always remain friends ends up being uprooted come the end of Season 3, where the time regression and Aisha's choice to stay in Africa altered the course of her family's history. In other words, Shawna's memories of her best friend would be erased and (presumably) replaced with Tanya and her family. Out of story, the fact that Shawna is never mentioned again after this and coupled with her actress' suicide in 2013 makes it even sadder.
• Overshadowed by Controversy: This episode has gotten some infamy since 2013 after news broke of Alissa Ann Smego's (Shawna's actress) suicide in October of that year. She had been diagnosed with a mental illness that she sadly couldn't cope with which led to her ending her life.
• Retroactive Recognition: Alissa Smego, who played Shawna, eventually started up her own online cooking show "In the Kitchen with Alissa Bigelow" for a while before turning to yoga instruction, which she continued until her passing.
