The movie

  • Anvilicious: The movie has a very heavy-handed criticism of the American education system. Mr. Teller straight-up gives a speech about how standardized tests are not an accurate way to measure students' intelligence because some students think outside of the box. Principal Dwight is presented as a corrupt individual who coldly enforces the school rules. While at first it seems like he's just really passionate about his school and tests, it's later revealed that he only cares about the money he'll get if his students get good grades. He later breaks the rules by planting false evidence against Mr. Teller's class to get them all suspended, and Rafe outright calls him a hypocrite.
  • Awesome Art: The 2D animated sequences that take place in Rafe's imagination.
  • Funny Moments: In the movie, Principal Dwight's comically sociopathic reaction to Ida opening a door and getting knocked over by hundreds of plastic balls falling through the door. He just stands there, not even attempting to help her up.
Dwight: Oh my God! (Beat) That could've been me!
  • Love to Hate: Rob Riggle as Carl in the movie. While he is an abusive boyfriend and stepfather, he's so hilarious about it that it's hard not to laugh at what an over-the-top jerk he is, and he gets some of the funniest moments in the movie.
  • Moral Event Horizon: In the movie, Principal Dwight crosses it when he plants evidence of Rafe's pranks to every student in Mr. Teller's class and suspends them for a week. He does this to prevent them from taking the BLAAR test, because Mr. Teller's students get lower grades than the other students, and without them, the school's average test score will go up, earning Dwight more money. He then fires Mr. Teller himself to rub more salt in the wound.
