- Fridge Brilliance: The villains being much older than normally depicted is to justify Damian being able to fight them and why they said down after Batman "worked overtime" as he put it.
- Spiritual Successor: The special can be seen as a DC equivalent to Marvel's Franklin Richards comics that were inspired by Calvin and Hobbes. Both are comedic stories about the Pint-Sized Kid offspring of famous superheroes who get into all kinds of trouble as they play with the equipment and gadgets from their fathers.
- Tainted by the Preview: Some people criticized the somewhat strange, crude-looking art style once an image from the film was unveiled in April 2023, though this has died down with the release of the trailer and eventually the film itself, which have been praised for depicting it as surprisingly fun and heartwarming.
