YMMV / Megami Device

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: Chaos & Pretty's bio for Grandma mentions the megami came into being after fans of Little Red began converting the Wolf head into a support unit, mirroring how people took Little Red's armor to build her a Wolf mech after seeing she did not come with one like her wave mate, Alice.
  • Broken Base: The recolors. Some people would consider the recoloured release are a neat addition and an alternative way to get the model you want if the base model is currently unavailable, while others finds them inferior or way too tacky compared to the base model. This doesn't stop both for kitbashing them with each other.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Asra line (especially ASRA Archer) is considered by fans as one of the most popular line in the series, being designed by the prolific Nidy-2D- does help. They're the ones with the most variations and re-releases.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Finds themselves in a healthy relationship with their sister products, Frame Arms Girls and Hexa Gear thanks to it's compatibility with their accessories and vice versa.
    • The MD fanbase were also fond of Busou Shinki, due to the Machineca standard body being similar to the MMS standard the Busou Shinki had. Even moreso with the release of Jaeger-type Edelweiss and the announcement for the Arnval and Straf MkI.
    • The MD Fanbase were also pretty close with the Alice Gear Aegis fanbase thanks to the releases based on the game's characters.
  • Growing the Beard:
    • Early on it's life cycle, Megami Device character designs were somehow highly identical with it's Spiritual Predecessor Busou Shinki earlier releases, even invoking their toylike appearance in the illustrations. With the release of Asra Ninja and Archer, the line's character designs becomes less toyetic and more angular and distinct to BS.
    • Starting from Bullet Knights release, Kotobukiya start using smaller and more compact joints that's more rigid and last longer compared to the older releases, where it was a lot more brittle and delicate. They also started using more and more POM joint pieces for the wrists and hips from the SOL girls onwards after complaints of fragility in said parts in the WISM girls.
    • The Block 2 body type that was launched with the Buster Gunner took design cues from the re-engineering of the Shinki sisters Arnval and Strarf, with improved and easier-to-assemble inner frame structures in the torso and legs and a revised and more durable shoulder joint peg, as well as more durable POM ankle joints and a cleaner and better-fitting toe assembly for the feet.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In-universe, the original Ganesha module for Sitara Kaneshiya is considered a Game-Breaker and as such, not suitable for retail releases, hence the reason her first release is the neutered-but-still-strong Karwa Chauth version. Fast forward a year later, the Ganesha module was announced in real life and would be released in Spring 2021.
  • Pandering to the Base: Thanks for their inherent popularity, Kotobukiya releases multitude of variations and custom parts based on the Asra series (especially Archer), from recolors to bonus parts that includes an alternative hair and bustier that emphasizes their buxom even more.
  • Spiritual Successor: Considered as one for Busou Shinki, due to the majority of the Megami Device designers and engineers now working with Kotobukiya being the core of the ORIGINAL Busou Shinki team from Konami, especially the holy trifecta of Humida, Apsy, and BLADE. The design and structure of the Machineca bodytype in particular has led the fan community to consider the Block 1 original releases to be MMS 4th, and the Block 2 update expected in 2024 to be MMS 5th, as true successors to the Shinki Multi-Moveable System (MMS) bodytype.
  • What Could Have Been
    • The Busou Shinki Collaboration was supposed to come with a whole wave of brand new girls, each designed by former Shinki artists, however only Edelweiss ever made it to release, with everything else remaining in limbo. Eventually Angel Arnval and Devil Straf was released several years later, and BLADE's concept Shinki was turned into PUNIā˜†MOFU Mao. The rest are still stuck in limbo.
    • When Desktop Army Collabed with Megami Device to produce a wave based on ASRA Ninja and Archer, we got to see an Ouki variant of Ninja, which the Megami still doesn't have to complement her wavemate.
    • Originally, there were plans for Chaos & Pretty's Little Red to have a large wolf mecha to mirror the rabbit mecha her wavemate Alice was promoted as having. However, it was scrapped for an unknown reason. It hasn't stopped people from cobbling together a smaller version of the mech for her.
    • Ameterasu was originally planned to have a complex armor system similar to Susanowo but was ultimately scrapped due to costs (Apsy has stated that a full armor Ameterasu would cost 20,000 yen).
