YMMV / Mega Man Super Fighting Robot

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack in general is excellent, but the Wily Capsule theme is especially awesome, essentially being power metal in 8-bit form.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • In the Brutal Bonus Level, the battle against Dr. Light, all of Light's default weapons are weapons from the first Mega Man game. Ice Slasher, Super Arm, etc. Why would Light prefer these over more famous attacks like the Metal Blade? These are all weapons that Light himself designed, whereas later robot master weapons were designed by Wily.
    • Magic Missile is a homing attack. As in D&D, it cannot be dodged.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Dagger Man is liked the most among the game's Robot Masters, due to his memorable design and stage, and challenging, yet fun boss fight. He got the honor of making appearances in Make A Good Mega Man Level 2 and Mega Man: Rock N Roll as a result.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Leaf Boomerang. As the main page described, it can deal multiple hits to an enemy, and it can also retrieve most items. The kicker is that for every boomerang returned, you gain half of the weapon energy back (which means you have two shots for one bar of energy), and it can bypass some of the shielded enemies' defense (Sniper Joes and Shield Attackers to be precise). Combine that with the helmet upgrade which raises the rate of item drops and the Energy Saver which doubles your ammo count, you're not gonna run out of Leaf Bommerangs anytime soon.
    • Giant Axe. It's a gigantic axe that deals MASSIVE damage and breaks through Mets' hard hats. Its weapon cost is fairly cheap. The only weakness is it is thrown in an arc, making it slightly trickier to hit enemies.
    • Magic Missile. It's a homing attack that automatically homes on and hits multiple enemies. However, it has a fairly high cost.
    • Zap Barrier. It grants you total invincibility, even spikes can't hurt you. You can activate this shield and ram into enemies without taking damage. It fact, this is the best strategy against Soak Man, making him a breather boss. The weapon cost is also very cheap!
    • Beat. Unlike his appearances in any other games, instead of saving you from pits or ramming enemies, he shoots piercing lasers that bypasses all kinds of defense (even Mets with their hats down). It also helps that he doesn't consume much weapon energy.
    • The Complete 2.0a Upgrade set (Buster, Armor, Boots, Helmet, +Energy Saver, and Balancer) makes the game a complete cakewalk. Bosses that were wiping the floor with you will now barely dent your life bar, you can just pelt through them with your upgraded buster, (as demonstrated by Roahm Mythril,) and the extra jumping power takes away most of the platforming challenge.
  • So Okay, It's Average: In general, the game is seen as competent, but doesn't do anything that's too out of the ordinary among other Mega Man fan games (guest boss fights aside).
  • That One Boss:
    • Dagger Man is a particularly nasty case of this. His attacks involve the use of his Flash Daggers, and they deal tons of damage. You will most likely get hit by his attack where he dashes and then sends cutter waves two times. It's very easy to be hit by this attack. Even with your Mega Buster's charged shot upgrade that can be bought, Dagger Man has another trick up his sleeve; he also teleports before two of his main attacks and after he shoots his Flash Dagger, meaning if you don't have his weakness, this teleportation can be annoying if you've charged up your Mega Buster and he teleports away from your shot, (even when he teleports right behind you) even when he is about to use his dash attack. There is also the attack where he shoots three daggers down, and it is easy to get hit by the dagger he shoots down while you are avoiding the shockwaves, leaving you screwed.
    • Axe Man, even with his weakness to the Flash Dagger, can utterly destroy you. He mostly jumps around and stomps, which can stun you if you're on the ground. He can also not only use his Giant Axe, but also send three projectiles towards you.
    • Unrelenting Fighting Obliterator, the boss of Wily 2. It moves in a circular motion, and sends out very hard-to-dodge attacks, like green mines and a laser. While those are dangerous, the crosshair that was pestering you throughout the whole stage still attacks you here, making it even more difficult.
  • That One Level:
    • Axe Man's stage consists of wall-turrets, giant axes that swing around and hit you for massive damage, giant axe enemies that drop down to the ground, and explosive Metools. It gets tiring quickly.
    • Wily Stage 2. There is a crosshair following you for almost the entire level, its blast radius is pretty substantial, it does a pretty good chunk of damage if it hits you, and the level is not exactly the most open one out there.
