• Director Displacement: Guy Ritchie and Matthew Vaughn were producers, yet the film was directed by Barry Skolnick.
• Magnificent Bastard: Charlie Sykes is a crime lord who is feared by all despite his decades-long incarceration. He provides gambling tips to the prison governor while tricking him into bringing in narcotic-soaked newspapers for Sykes to sell. He resents Danny Meehan for throwing a football match due to both national pride (it was an England game) and the money he lost betting on said match as a result. Sykes however, refuses to rig a game between the guards and prisoners to favour the guards. He also tricks the governor into betting that the guards will win. He respects fellow long-serving convict Doc and tries to avenge his murder. He carries himself with style as the unofficial "owner" of the convict team and tries to get Danny substituted when it looks like he's going to throw the match. The film ends with the governor heavily in Sykes' debt as a result of the convicts' victory and Sykes blowing up the governor's car to deter him from seeking revenge on the inmates who cost him the bet.
• Moment of Awesome: In quick succession towards the end of the football match — Monk saves the free kick, following which the ball is punted upfield to Danny, who gets clean on goal ... and passes it to Billy so that he can score the winner.
