YMMV / M*A*S*H S7 E25: The Party

• Hilarious in Hindsight: At the end, Winchester jokes that he won't be at the get-together between his and Radar's families on Radar's first summer home because he'll turn himself in to the Chinese. Radar went home before Charles, meaning he likely wasn't there (assuming the financial problems Radar's family was facing that lead him to come home in the first place wouldn't prevent it from happening).
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: B.J. comes across at this thanks to his moping over nobody caring about his party - forgetting that he was asking them about it in the middle of a bug out.
• Values Resonance: It has become common for the families of active-duty personnel from different areas of their home country to meet up and support each other, same as the families of the M*A*S*H personnel did at the party. This is especially true now that American and other allied forces aren't made of conscripted personnel, ergo fewer families within a community with a relative serving overseas.
  • Most units nowadays, when they deploy, will leave a rear detachment to oversee the unit area until the bulk of the unit returns. Among their responsibilities is organizing activities for the families of deployed personnel (at least, the families in the area) to help keep up family morale and coordinate things like care packages.
