YMMV / Mary Shelley

Go To

  • Diagnosed by the Audience:
    • Percy Shelley is portrayed as erratic, impulsive, and narcissistic - historians today believe he suffered from bipolar disorder.
    • Lord Byron is portrayed as superficially friendly and charming, but callous and almost casually cruel to Mary and Claire, the expectant mother of his child. In the present day, it is believed he had Antisocial Personality Disorder.
  • Romantic Plot Tumor: While the movie is ostensibly about Mary's life and the writing of Frankenstein, the movie focuses extensively on her tumultuous relationship with Percy, with relatively little focus on anything else and Frankenstein only coming into play near the end.

  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Mary's stepsister Claire was a fascinating person in real life, with her affair and child with Lord Byron being only one episode in her eventful life. Frankly, a very interesting movie could be made about her.
