YMMV / Mario Superstar Baseball

Go To

  • Cult Classic: Though not as well known due to the lack of longevity compared to Mario Tennis or Mario Golf and the edginess of Mario Strikers, this game and its sequel are still very well regarded by those aware of them, especially Mario fans who are also baseball fans, to the point of having a small competitive scene. Much like Mario Strikers before it got its own third installment, fans have been clamoring for a third game for years.
  • Game-Breaker: Peach's Star Special move, Heart Ball, can fool the computer about 70% of the time whether it's from a pitch or a hit.
  • Mexicans Love Speedy Gonzales: It is still a well-regarded game amongst baseball fans. It helps that it was made by Namco, who also made the Famista series (and the original R.B.I. Baseball).
  • That One Sidequest: Many of the missions in the story mode, which require you to go out of your way to perform various specific baseball actions instead of focusing on winning the game, count as this.
    • Baby Mario's Star Mission "Catch a booted ball!" notably, is completely random, a booted ball is one that hits a character - and as to when they'll be hit rather than catching it as normal. You also have to be lucky enough for the person hit with the ball to be near Baby Mario in the first place so that he can catch it.
    • Of note, by a complete mistranslation, Paragoomba's "Crack a long hit!" mission. The real goal is to cross home plate, something that was correctly stated for a Paratroopa mission. This wasn't discovered until September 2022 when the game came out in 2005.
