YMMV / Manfred Mann

Go To

  • Covered Up/Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Their 1969 song "Fox on the Run" was covered by the Bluegrass group The Country Gentlemen in 1971, and quickly became a Bluegrass standard. It's a case of Newer Than They Think for a lot of people, who assume it's a much older American folk song. Love's version of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David-penned "My Little Red Book" is also better known than Manfred Mann's version.
  • One-Hit Wonder: In the US, "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" was their only #1 record, making it their Signature Song.
  • Refrain from Assuming: The title is only "Doo Wah Diddy", and doesn't include "diddy dum, diddy do".
  • Retroactive Recognition: The Earth Band's first drummer, Chris Slade, later went on to drum for AC/DC on "Thunderstruck" and after Phil Rudd was convicted.
  • Signature Song: "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" is easily the band's most popular song, with "Mighty Quinn" being second place. If you count the Earth Band spinoff, then it's "Blinded by the Light".
