• Applicability: The absurdist humor of the show almost always comes from a place of reality and analogy, but is still absurd enough that the individual viewer may have their own interpretation of what it is supposed to mean. Josh's mom drugs him and takes him to a torture chamber, complete with electrical clamps to his nipples and testicles, asking for more information about a girl "Maude" he had been seeing.
• Harsher in Hindsight: When being tortured, Josh saves his skin by lying to his mother and throwing Liz under the bus, claiming that she's secretly engaged. Come "Teacup," Leo dumps her and they'll never get engaged.
