• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Latin-American kids of The '80s remember this series very, very fondly. The series has also aired in Italy and France. By contrast, it wasn't particularly popular in Japan in comparison to its predecessors Sally the Witch and Himitsu No Akkochan.
• Older Than They Think: Disney's version of The Little Mermaid seems to have been influenced by this series. Ariel resembles Mako's mermaid form (though she is a brunette as a human).
• Tear Jerker: Episode 32 features a St. Bernard named Lulu owned by a blind girl who's being abused by her father, and Lulu protecting her from as much abuse as she can. Lulu and Mako save them both from a fire, but Lulu ends up getting burned protecting her owner and dies from her injuries.
