YMMV / Lost Ollie

• Alternate Character Interpretation: Was Zozo fake crying to manipulate Ollie or was he genuinely grateful Ollie was willing to give up his bell but he was too far gone to have morals?
• Jerkass Woobie: Despite making no effort to redeem himself, Zozo is pitiable because he loses Nina after she is bought by Momma when she was little and he never sees her again. She ended up loving Nina so much she fell apart and only her bell is left and put inside Ollie. He breaks down in tears after learning this and tries to rip her bell out of Ollie (which works as his heart).
• He Really Can Act:
  • Tim Blake Nelson's voice performance as Zozo is very well done. Notably during moments when he starts getting very upset or suddenly lashing out at Ollie and Rosy. His performance truly shines when he gets separated from Nina (the love of his life) during an auction and wailing after Ollie tells him why Nina's bell was put inside him.
  • Jonathan Groff delivers a charming and emotional performance as the titular character Ollie. Such as breaking down when he discovers Billy abandoned him, and on the verge of tears when explaining to Zozo what happened to Nina.
• Squick: Billy's dad being said to have his toe stuck up a dog's butt.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Zozo watching Nina getting sold at an auction after Dreamland's closure. When he watches the car driving away with her inside, Zozo is heard yelling and bawling as he's struggling to get out of the spring attached to him.
  • Ollie watching Momma dying while Billy and Daddy are sleeping. Ollie spends her final moments alive by not only comforting her (such as helping her drink), but sings the song "All I Have To Do Is Dream" before passing away.
  • After Zozo discovers the fate of Nina and starts beating Ollie in a fit of rage. Ollie begs him to stop before he quickly tells him why she no longer exists. This causes Zozo wail in complete sorrow as Ollie tells him how similar his situation with Nina is with Momma.
    Ollie: She fell apart! She was loved so much, and she fell apart!
    Zozo:: (begins wailing in agony)
    Ollie: Billy's momma couldn't let her go. So she put a piece of her inside of me.
    Zozo: (sobbing) Nina! Nina!
    Ollie: I know how you feel. It hurts so, so bad. But that's okay. It's okay to hurt.
  • Ollie remembering Mike mocking Billy for taking Ollie everywhere and Billy then throwing Ollie outside and leaving him just so he wouldn't be seen as a kid anymore. Ollie is left in tears and cries after the flashback is over. He even considers abandoning his stars after feeling betrayed.
• The Woobie:
  • Ollie was abandoned by his longtime best friend Billy to prove he wasn't a kid anymore. Ollie breaks down in tears when he remembers this.
  • Billy too, he was bullied into believing he was too immature for his age and unintentionally pressured by his father into abandoning Ollie. He regrets this and goes looking for Ollie, not finding him until he's a grown man with his own child. When his daughter Suzy talks to Ollie he begins crying.
  • Momma when she's on her death bed and worries about what would happen to her family after she dies.
