YMMV / Loren: The Amazon Princess

Go To

  • Awesome Music: This game has a good number of pretty catchy tunes.
  • Demonic Spiders: Those daggone Demon Beasts heal themselves and others, are immune to all status effects and resistant to all forms of damage, and summon monster friends whenever you fight them.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Speed-increasing equipment is cheap and easy to find, and loading it onto heavy-hitting melee characters can give you 2-4 turns for every turn the enemy takes. Usually not seen to its fullest effect unless the teams are even; if you're not prepared, you will witness this firsthand when, in Loren's personal quest, Loren must face her mother, a naturally-speedier Thief, one-on-one.
    • Mage characters. With the right upgrades, they can use multiple elements whenever they please, allowing them to take advantage of any elemental weaknesses, and hit several foes at once, wherever they are.
    • Normal-resistant gear. Tellingly, most equipment that supposedly defends against an element such as Air or Earth only truly defends against the incredibly debilitating status debuffs those elemental-based spells inflict, which would apply damage over time and strengthen further attacks. Instead, there exists equipment that actually allows resistance to normal attacks, the source of the majority of the damage for the first two chapters! It also trivializes some of the one-on-one duels you may have to face, such as against Karen or Amukiki. Of course, one of these items is unique and actually adds weaknesses to said elemental status debuffs as a balance, while the other notable item, the Shield of Mondragon, can only be used by those who can use shields in the first place.
  • Tear Jerker: A number of sad moments to go around for everyone.
    • The possible Love Triangle cutscenes at the end of Chapter 3 that force you to choose between two lovers. Particularly that of Loren and Karen, where no matter what choice you pick, Loren will tearfully scream at her mother for being selfish and call her a bad mom, and Karen will agree with her.
    • Versions of the ending where you don't have Zeal there to provide you with the Golden Ending and a Heroic Sacrifice has to be made. Can you stand to see Loren forced to say goodbye to her mother, or Karen to her daughter? Or do it yourself, especially if you've been romancing either of them? Maybe the pleas of Please, Don't Leave Me from the rest of the party?
    • Elenor's ending with Loren. After ruling as a great Queen for many years alongside her lover, Loren is slain in a duel for the throne, leaving behind a grieving Elenor. Before the duel, Loren had made her opponent promise to make sure that Elenor would have anything she could ask for. And she did...except for Loren. Fortunately, with plans for a sequel, this ending has been declared non-canon.
