YMMV / Lord of the Dance (1997)

Go To

  • Covered Up: In a way, this applies to the title song—far more people have likely heard of this play, and recognized "Lord of the Dance" in its Celtic incarnation, than are aware of either the Shaker hymn "Simple Gifts" which lent it its tune or the evangelical hymn "Lord of the Dance" which inspired the play.
  • Ending Fatigue: The actual play goes on for hours.
  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: Many critics have likened the Lord of the Dance to this.
  • Narm: The advertising featured oh-so-mockable shots of Flately and company posing with their chests heaving with exertion.
    • The 2011 version has rather narmy costumes for Don Dorcha and his men. The Don himself looks like some kind of villain out of Power Rangers. (Although that his men look like riot police can be rightly terrifying.)
    • Also, Flatley and Dorcha miming "shouting" at their men.
