YMMV / Lord of Illusions

• Complete Monster: Nix, known as The Puritan, is the leader of a fanatic cult and begins the movie by kidnapping a little girl to sacrifice for power, displaying a sadistic streak by letting his pet Mandrill attack her. His former apprentice, Philip Swann, thankfully stops him and kills him. A monster while alive, Nix becomes far worse after his cultists resurrect him. Nix immediately kills his cultists out of disgust for their slavish devotion to him, sneering that while they've waited like lambs for him, "I'm not your shepherd". When he tries to lure Swann back to his side, Nix is so disgusted Swann feels love for beings who are "just flesh" that he brutalizes and fatally wounds Swann. Nix reveals his true intent is to murder the world and show it the terror of the grave.
• Fanfic Fuel:
  • The movie begins with Swann and the others have already been members of Nix's cult and alludes to but doesn't depict how something drove them to desert him but then return to save an innocent life.
  • What did happen with Harry and the exorcism he conducted right before the movie?
• Funny Moments: "That's a good accent, by the way. What is that, Brooklyn?" "Hey, fuck you, alright?!"
• Ho Yay: Nix and Swann, Butterfield and Miller.
• Moral Event Horizon:
  • Nix already crossed it at the movie's beginning when he kidnapped a little girl for a sacrifice. The worst part however is killing all of his followers who resurrected him just because they annoyed him with their blind loyalty to him.
  • His cult followers, if they hadn't already crossed it by abetting the above kidnapping, took a flying leap over it when they murdered their own families to cut all personal ties and resume slavishly following Nix.
• Narm: Throughout the movie Nix is a horrifying and threatening villain, but his death (falling through a crack in the Earth until he hits a magma stream and explodes) is like something out of a Wile E. Coyote cartoon.
• Nightmare Fuel / Squick: Nix's...headpiece. Also Nix's illusions of "flesh with a god's eye".
