YMMV / Lord Darcy

  • Genius Bonus: In Ten Little Wizards, the Dwindling Party nursery rhyme which is the alt-universal equivalent to Agatha Christie's is called "Ten Little Skreylings". In-Verse, it's said that the English believe that people from the Isle of Skrey (real-world locale unspecified) are foolish. Out of Verse, "Skreyling" was an old Norse term for the native inhabitants of Greenland: a plausible, yet too archaic to offend readers, alternate-history counterpart to Christie's second-less-racist "Ten Little Indians".
  • Values Dissonance: The book, due to the time it was written, is very uncritical of (alt) British colonialism. While it should be said the Angevin empire was much nicer to the natives than any empire in our timeline, the mention of how easily and willingly the natives have Europeanized themselves because Angevin magic and religion was just that much better still comes off as… antiquated.
