Amateur Cast: Many of the actors were virtual unknowns when cast. Of the original cast, only James Hazeldine (Bayleaf) and James Marcus (Sidney Tate) were established television actors. This was deliberate, to give the show a documentary feel.
Jerkass Woobie: Geoff Pearce and Jack Morgan could both come off as this.
Nausea Fuel: The decomposing maggot-infested corpse that George and Geoff find in an empty house.
Ken Stott appeared in a series 1 episode as George's brother-in-law Cyril.
Shut Up, Hannibal!: Chris Hammond standing up to Nick in series 11 after the latter criticises his authority and dubious leadership as a Station Officer (although the latter claim turns out to be a cause for concern due to Chris's gambling debt).
The series is set in parts of London which have now been redeveloped, especially areas of South London such as the Docklands and Rotherhithe.
In the pilot movie, series 1 and the Christmas Special, Blue Watch wear the now very antiquated uniform of woollen tunics with brass buttons and yellow leggings. During the first three series, the firefighters also wear the quaint-looking cork helmets. Many of the ranks used, such as Station Officer, Sub Officer and Leading Firefighter, have now been abolished in the London Fire Brigade.
As of 2019, the LFB has restored the former ranks that had been previously abolished in 2001 as part of a return to the traditional rank titles.
