YMMV / Liv Morgan

Go To

  • Broken Base:
    • Her gimmick. A lot find her a Replacement Scrappy of Carmella (as she has a similar look, gimmick and made her official on-screen debut right after Carmella was drafted to SmackDown, teaming up with 'Mella in her final NXT matchnote  at that!), but others feel there are enough differences for both of them to continue playing the gimmicks. During the time that both women were on SmackDown, it was suggested that the two might feud over their similarities in the future, but it didn't come to fruition as Morgan got traded to Raw with the rest of The Riott Squad in 2018.
    • Her in-ring skills as well, as she's a homegrown talent with only a few years of experience, there are debates on whether she is good for her level or should be doing better. This largely died off in 2018 when Liv stepped her game up and held her own on the main roster with the likes of Naomi, Charlotte Flair and Ember Moon.
    • Her seemingly random call-up to the main roster towards the end of 2017 (which it turns out was done so WWE could have enough women for their first ever women's Royal Rumble). Many believe she's too green and underdeveloped for a spot on the main roster (when the the likes of Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Ember Moon and Nikki Cross, all of which are more experienced and established with the fanbase than Liv, were still in NXT at the time) especially after Dana Brooke earned the fans' ire for also being called up before she was ready. Others feel that she's good enough and that the main roster will give her the exposure she needs to become a true breakout star, especially with the influx of new women in NXT from the WWE Mae Young Classic, all of whom would likely end up overshadowing her anyway.
    • Her return to Raw and being revealed to be out of nowhere as in love with Lana. Those who still found Lana's angle with Rusev and Lashley to be So Bad, It's Good considered the reveal to be the natural progression of the story, given its Jerry Springer Show-worthy qualities, while some found it a ridiculously obvious case of queerbaiting and have questioned why the hell it happened.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Surprisingly enough 2018 has seen Liv becoming the favourite member of The Riott Squad among fans - due to her improved ring skills and being the one most likely to take pins for the squad. She also got lots of sympathy after she was legitimately concussed from a kick by Brie Bella.
    • Since her Heel–Face Turn in 2019, Liv has been receiving some recognition, especially when she mocked Creator's Pet Charlotte Flair for her constant screen hogging. This leads to Liv's push as a singles competitors as well as rebranding her character. By 2021, she remains popular enough that she is the last member of the Riott Squad in the company thanks to Sarah and Ruby being released in ridiculously foolish business decisions in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
    • By 2022, her constant in-ring improvement, genuinely endearing heart-on-her-sleeve personality, and sexy-punk-rocker-meets-girl-next-door look has made her so beloved by fans and peers alike that upon winning Money in the Bank and cashing it in to become SmackDown Women's Champion her merchandise and crowd reactions would climb up to rival those of the company's established top women, showing that management did not jump ahead of the crowd when it came to her push.
  • Growing the Beard:
    • Late 2016 saw Liv improving at a great rate. In a triple threat match against Ember Moon and Billie Kay, she was thought to be the odd one out. However she held her own and came close to winning. Lethal Wow even noted her improvement.
    • While her original look wasn't bad, it was so similar to Carmella's that it earned her unfavorable comparisons to the former. Because of this, many fans took a liking to her pink-haired, colored tounge Riott Squad look (incidentally, Carmella herself has also changed her looks by then).
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Liv Forever shows the Riott Squad being reformed with just Liv and Ruby, and the latter gives a speech about how she intends for all three of them to go into the Hall of Fame. Not only was Sarah Logan released while the documentary was filming, but Ruby too would be released only a few months later. Fortunately, Sarah has since returned to the company in November of 2022, albeit under a different gimmick.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A segment in 2018 had Tyler Breeze trying to give Liv and Sarah one of his t-shirts. They respond by laughing at him and ripping the t-shirt up. This is very amusing to those who remember that Liv debuted as a planted Tyler Breeze fan. And she did so by jumping on his back, which she typically does to Sarah and did in the segment there.
  • Les Yay:
    • She and Aliyah are very close, and their Pseudo-Romantic Friendship comes across as such on TV. They've even done a couple of photoshoots together.
    • The same with her Riott Squad teammates. Their entrance together typically had Liv jumping on Sarah Logan's back with her tongue hanging out, and she and Ruby Riott have used words like “love” and “girlfriend” in tweets and videos posted to Twitter.
    • The December 30, 2019 episode of Raw reveals that she had a brief love affair with Lana, and to that end, she teamed up with Lana's ex-husband Rusev note  to crash her and Bobby Lashley's wedding; Lana responded by viciously attacking her, as she was in full Attention Whore mode that night.
    • Her 2022 tag team with Rhea Ripley, where the two would embrace each other constantly. Liv in particular took nearly any opportunity possible to be affectionate with Rhea, whether it be touching her or complimenting her. When Rhea attacked her and turned heel to join Edge's faction The Judgment Day, Liv reacted much like a Woman Scorned, especially on social media.
  • Testosterone Brigade: Liv has a lot of male fans just for her beauty and tomboyish Girl Next Door and One of Us vibes on social media.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Many were annoyed that she wasn't featured in the Mae Young Classic tournament, especially considering her improvement in 2017.
    • The documentary Liv Forever shows that she pitched a much darker character to creative but it was ignored, and she spent the entirety of her time on Smackdown doing nothing (including having a return match cancelled literally seconds before she was to go out). Her gothic "Watch Me" gimmick demonstrates shades of this darker character which vary from time to time, the most pronounced periods being when she lost her first Women's Championship and when she returned from an eight-month injury at the hands of Rhea Ripley.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions:
    • Her rather pointless 'push' where she called out Asuka and got beaten rather quickly.
    • The same thing happened again after being drafted away from The Riott Squad, disbanding the trio. After a hiatus, she called out Charlotte Flair, got beaten rather quickly, and then went on a hiatus again.
  • Unexpected Character: Much like Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose the night before, few expected Liv to debut on the main roster so soon. What's more is that she, Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan all debuted as heels when they had been faces on NXT.
  • The Woobie: Very much so. From having both her friends Ruby Soho and Sarah Logan released and defeated by Becky Lynch twice by dirty tactics plus having her match against Ember Moon cut, the poor girl just can't catch a break despite her being one of the most popular women superstars in WWE.
    • Even more of a woobie as of the 18th April 2022 edition of WWE Raw as after a women's tag team championship match against Naomi and Sasha Banks, Liv was betrayed violently by her tag team partner Rhea Ripley.
