  • Ass Pull: Sarah and Yassir's divorce.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Baber taking his daughter trick-or-treating and being mistaken for wearing an Osama bin Laden costume. He takes it pretty well.
  • Ho Yay: Thorne and Baber, who are very close in season six, and use pet names.
  • Retroactive Recognition: For fans of stealth-based video games, it can be jarring to see Majd Sadiq attempting to keep his family together.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The show received surprisingly little criticism for its situation, but it still invokes this trope in-universe, for example it is acknowledged with the contentious issue of the "great barrier grief" in the second episode. Yet what is considered a reasonable and light-hearted method of compromise within the show is likely to send non-Muslim viewers fuming all the way through about disrespect of women.
    • Gay marriage. A stereotypical gay couple (to the point one of them writes, ‘I promise to please, but not obey, except on Leather Fetish Day...’ in his wedding vows) wants to get married at the Anglican church, and the reverend asks the imam what he thinks; the imam brushes it off and says that just doesn’t count as marriage in Islam.
