YMMV / Little Mix

Go To

  • Fandom Rivalry:
    • The rivalry of factions of Mixers with factions of fans of Fifth Harmony. When 5H disbanded, K-pop act BLACKPINK are the fanbase whose fans try to compete against Mixers, though in a climate with girl groups so sparse, LM have never been worried.
    • Little Mix did later admit that both them and 5H being under Simon Cowell was awkward, but that they were different enough for it to have little effect on their relations. Ex-5H member Normani wrote Bounce Back for LM in 2019.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The lyrics from the group's single "Wasabi" come off like this when Jesy Nelson announced her departure from the girl group in 2020 due to eating disorders, anxiety and mental health issues.
    (Oh-oh) "When she goin' solo?"
(Oh-oh) "I bet they gonna break up!"
    • Not long after Jesy's departure from the group (following "Sweet Melody"), Little Mix announced in late 2021 that they would be "taking a break" from making music but insist to their fanbase that they are not "breaking up".
    • Their collaboration with Nicki Minaj is this in light of the extremely messy Instagram Live between Jesy, Nicki and Leigh-Anne where Leigh-Anne called out Jesy for blackfishing and stereotyping black men in the latter's music video for "Boyz" which caused Nicki to attack Leigh-Anne while Jesy just sit by and watched.
  • Hollywood Homely: In the "Black Magic" music video, the band acted as unpopular nerds the Big Man on Campus doesn't notice and whom the Alpha Bitch shoves around before their "magical makeover" thanks to the spell book they found. However, the dressing down isn't very convincing because it only includes putting them in plainer clothes and hairstyles, Perrie and Jade wearing Nerd Glasses before they stopped using them, and acting shy and clumsy.
  • Les Yay: In "Confetti", Jade is crushing on their rival Lenny (Leigh-Anne) while their other rival J-Dog (Jade) is crushing on Perrie. Now considering that the male alter-egos/rivals in the music video are played by , well, the girls...
  • LGBT Fanbase: Little Mix has quite the fanbase with the LGBT+ community due to their support.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name:
    • Pesy (Perrie/Jesy)
    • Lerrie (Leigh Anne/Perrie)
    • Lesy (Leigh Anne/Jesy)
    • Jadesy or Jasy (Jade/Jesy)
    • Jeigh or Leighade (Leigh Anne/Jade)
    • Jerrie (Jade/Perrie)
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • Because of their Talent Show roots (where they trumped Boy Bands at their own game), Little Mix are comparable to Girls Aloud's own origin story. Their songs have also garnered comparisons to the Spice Girls, TLCnote , and Destiny's Child.
    • "Move," the first single off Salute, garnered comparisons to Girls Aloud, and Nicola Roberts herself co-wrote "Going Nowhere" for DNA, and "See Me Now" and "They Don't Know You" for Salute.
    • The title track of Salute can be considered this for BeyoncĂ©'s "Run the World", as well as "How Ya Doin?" for Lady Gaga's "Telephone".
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Perrie breaking down emotionally after a live performance of their single "Black Magic" considering she went through the break-up of her engagement to Zayn.
    • After Jesy left the girl group to focus on her mental health and well-being, it was revealed that during the making of what was her last music video with Little Mix as a quartet, she suffered a severe anxiety attack during and after filming wrapped due to secretly suffering from body image dysmorphia.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: "Black Magic" was a hit with kids, despite it being agreed to be about oral sex (with the woman receiving).
