• Awesome Music: Lil Bow Wow's cover of "Basketball" is one of the most memorable aspects of this film for a reason.
• Covered Up: Most people are more familiar with the cover of "Basketball" that was recorded for this film's soundtrack than the original version by Kurtis Blow.
• Funny Moments: While the halftime contest is going, Bittleman is passing the time by playing a magnetic chess game in the van. When the manager is impressed by Calvin's (supernatural) skill, he runs out to tell Bittleman about how he wants Calvin to join the team, startling the guy so much that he lurches violently in his seat, sending the chess board and pieces flying.
  Bittleman: [utterly crestfallen] I was about to win...
• Moral Event Horizon: Bittleman threatening to burn Murph's only picture of his mother just to get information out of him while mocking him about it. It's small compared to most MEHs, but still shockingly dark for such a lighthearted film.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Brenda Song has a small role as a friend of Calvin's. This was before her breakout role as London Tipton in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
  • Jesse Plemons was Ox, the main bully, a few years before he hit it big on both Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad.
• Viewer Name Confusion: According to Wikipedia and the credits, Bittleman's surname is spelled "Bittleman" but some might spell it "Biddleman".
