  • Lara is very superficial and her vanity becomes more and more prominent as the book goes on. Despite this, it's very easy to feel bad for her as her social life and family life both completely collapse in on themselves due to her getting a disease that makes her overweight.
  • Patty is a bullied overweight girl who is regularly insulted and patronized, but she became almost completely unsympathetic when she decided to visit Lara in the hospital in order to mock her weight gain.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The story is about Lara going through a series of losses, humiliations and Break the Haughty moments with genuinely heartwarming moments being few and far between.
