YMMV / Liar! Uncover the Truth

Go To

  • Abandon Shipping: Especially in Uncover the Truth, the severity and nature of their lie has the potential to sink a pairing between the heroine and a love interest.
  • Difficulty Spike: In Dark Lies, finding the evidence required for the final choice in Himeno’s chapter can be considered this, due there being several other pieces of evidence that are seemingly relevant, as they bear the liar’s real name on it, but would result in a Game Over if picked. The actual evidence required can be pretty hard to identify as you were supposed to be pointing out the way Himeno has a habit of writing the kanji of her real name, ‘Shin Toyama’, incorrectly, mistaking the length of one of the strokes in one of the characters in her name.
  • Funny Moments:
    • One of the event questions with Kazumi is picking out Christmas music. Two of the options are: "I love anime soundtracks." and "Want to chant hymns?"
    • One event question from Sotaro is what food he loves enough to dine with his mortal enemy. Picking the wrong answer just gets a smile and a Blunt "No".
    • The Office MC's nicknames for the Uncover the Truth guys in the "Sun, Sand, and Swindling" event. Azusa is "Smooth Operator", Sotaro is "Cool Bro", and Kazumi is "Bearded Dude".
    • When the heroine of Office Deception figures out that Taichi is cheating on her, his attempt to win her back includes him saying that he doesn't like Sakurako as much as the MC because he isn't into her boobs and considers himself an "ass man", instead.
  • Ho Yay:
    • In Office Deception, Chisa gets drunk at a Merry K party and starts going on about how much she trusts the heroine before using her as a Lap Pillow and passing out.
    • In Scheming Socialites, Mio's Yandere feelings for the heroine can be interpreted this way, as she actively sabotages the heroine's love life to keep her "best friend"'s attention focused on her.
    • Many of the "Super Cool!" reactions from female characters after answering correctly in Flirt Time fall under this category, as they will blush and say something complimentary (although not as flirtatious as the male characters' reactions). Examples are Reina's "You know I'd do anything for you, right?" and Chisa's "I would so like to become better acquainted with you" while blushing and avoiding eye contact.
  • Jerkass Dissonance: Many liars fall into this category, considering the premise of the game— the majority of the characters are revealed to be bad people, but fans will still enjoy/like them while acknowledging that being in a real-life relationship with someone like this them would be uncomfortable at best.
  • Squick: The first liar's borderline incestuous relationship with his mother. Eeek.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • In Uncover the Truth only the last four liars get lover's routes, so if you liked any of the first five you're out of luck.
    • The characters in Office Deception and Scheming Socialites don't get any lover's routes at all.
  • Underused Game Mechanic:
    • In Office Deception a group TalkTime is created for all the members of D-Team, which ends up being completely forgotten after the second liar is found.
    • Although App Matchmaking introduces the ability to eliminate multiple liars within a single chapter, this was utilised only in the 1st, 2nd and 7th chapters. The rest of the chapters offer only one liar per chapter, as per the previous stories.
