YMMV / LEGO Friends

Go To

  • Anvilicious: The Dolphin Cruise episode. Direct promotion of one of the models, while throwing in the case of dolphin trawling to move the plot.
  • Award Snub: an inversion, some thought the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood was too harsh on the The LEGO Friends Butterfly Beauty Shop for it's feminine nature, seeing a Double Standard at play as the LEGO Friends Butterfly Beauty Shop is still a complex building toy even if it does have a stereotypically feminine theme.
  • Fandom-Enraging Misconception: LEGO Friends sets are NOT simpler or easier to build than other LEGO sets aimed at the same age range. There are simpler 4+ sets, but these are appear across multiple LEGO themes not just LEGO Friends.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The surprise party episode has Mia figuring out how to pull a toy rabbit from her hat, only for a passing bird to snatch it, just like in this viral video.
    • After selling many Friends sets over the years, LEGO releases...a set based on Friends.
  • No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: LEGO Friends initially received a lot of flack from adult Feminists, including The Butterfly Beauty Shop getting a a TOADY (Toys Oppressive And Destructive to Young Children) from the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (now known as Fairplay) and a two part video from Feminist Frequency in 2012. Despite this, the line was a massive success when it launched in May 2012, with the line doubling sales expectations, with sales to girls tripling in the same year.
  • Periphery Demographic: The specialized pieces/'accessories' have attracted an audience that LEGO was not aiming for.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: At the end of episodes such as "Emma's Dilemma" and "Roomies", Stephanie and Tanya put aside their rivalry. You'd think both girls would make an effort to be more amicable in future episodes, but this never happens.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Olivia in "Midwinter Night's Dream". Having spent all year working on her entry for the Robotics Challenge convention, she starts off reasonably upset after losing to Emma by freak accident. However, her refusal to accept it was an accident, even when Emma makes it clear she didn't want the award, veers her into Designated Hero territory. Not only that, but when the rest of the girls try to vouch for Emma, Olivia says she wishes she never met any of them. It doesn't help that she hitherto was the smartest and the most level-headed of her friends, striking some viewers as wildly out of character for her.
