• Awesome Music:
  • This OVA has quite an epic orchestra soundtrack composed by Masamichi Amano.
  • Also the beautiful ending theme sung by Shinichi Ishihara.
• Catharsis Factor: Seeing Continental being castrated by Leonard for raping Jonathan is pretty damn satisfying.
• Complete Monster: Captain Continental is the depraved leader of a group of soldiers. As their leader, Continental forces the subordinates he takes sexual interest in to submit to him, where he repeatedly whips and rapes them, brainwashing them into doing whatever he wants. After becoming infatuated with Jonathan, Continental forces him to strip to his underwear and whips him when he refuses to submit. He later publicly humiliates Jonathan by beating him to a pulp in front of his other subordinates. Knowing that Jonathan's love interest, Leonard, is behaving as his guardian, Continental gets some of his subordinates to split Jonathan and Leonard apart so he can violently rape Jonathan in the showers.
• Fetish Retardant: The rapes involving Continental, nuff' said...
• Fridge Logic: If the Apocalypse use human brains to power themselves, what the Hell were they using for fuel before humanity found them?
• Harsher in Hindsight: In 2019, there was a news article about how over 100,000 have been sexually assaulted and raped in the military by officials in recent decades, which makes the scenes involving Continental raping his own subordinates and Jonathan even more difficult to watch than they already were before.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Toshiyuki Morikawa's role as Leonard goes as this, as in this OVA, he castrates Continental for raping Jonathan. Years later, he would end working in the Japanese dub of Strays (2023), when he voiced the villain, named Doug, who is also the former master of the main character of the film, and at the final leg of it, he gets his penis ripped off.
• Memetic Mutation: The anime is /m/'s version of the Boku no Pico recommendation meme.
• Misaimed Fandom: There exists an edit of all the scenes of Continental, including his rape of Jonathan, which has since been construed as sexy. It doesn't help that this is one of the few instances of uncensored gay sex, much less from a hentai that leans more on the Bara Genre, resulting in viewers happily watching them unfold. That being said, this is probably an Intended Audience Reaction for viewers who are into sadistic sex scenes.
• Narm:
  • It's hilariously... jarring to see Jonathan's uber-uke and super blushy face as he has his Intimate Psychotherapy session with Leonard.
  • Those familiar with Takehito Koyasu's voice work will at least giggle when they (easily) recognize him as Jonathan. He may have used a pseudonym, but his very particular voice is impossible to mistake for someone else's here. And it's even funnier because Koyasu keeps doing voice work in R/NC-17 stuff even now...
  • In the scene where Continental is raping Jonathan, we get a quick close-up of Continental's buttocks, which is both incredibly gross but unintentionally comical at the same time.
• Periphery Demographic: As Bara, it's directed towards gay men, but it's gotten some attention from Yaoi Fangirls who appreciate its decent story and avoidance of Yaoi's usual cliches.
• Retroactive Recognition: Takehito Koyasu's voice is impossible to not recognize.
• Squick: Captain Continental's rape of Jonathan and Captain Continental himself. Also doubles as Nausea Fuel.
• The Woobie:
  • Jonathan Tyberius, who has to suffer sexual abuse and rape at the hands of the truly vile Captain Continental, and is later forced to kill his lover, Leonard.
  • Leonard Schteinberg also counts. He lost his younger brother who died in an accident, who he is grieving over and blames himself for not being able to save him, and he ends up being captured by aliens and turned into a war-machine.
