He knew that she'd undergo a mandatory test soon and that when the results of that test came out his business would be shut down for months, so he set her up to be killed. When testifying, the defense attorney makes the experience as embarrassing and difficult for her as possible. The way she reacts to all of this makes you feel very sorry for her and want to comfort her. An In-Universe example, as Jaruszalski becomes very protective of her.
