  • Awesome Music: The album is frequently regarded as one of Zappa's finest achievements despite being comprised largely of previously released material. The added contrast between Zappa's many different styles is considered to add to the material's effectiveness. Despite its lengthy running time, it may be a particularly strong introduction for neophytes due to providing a balanced overview of Zappa's many strengths as a composer and performer. Particular highlights include "The Purple Lagoon", "The Black Page #1", "The Ocean Is the Ultimate Solution", and "The Adventures of Greggery Peccary". It being more in-line with Zappa's creative vision than the four albums it was cut up into during the 70's certainly helps.
  • Funny Moments: "Titties 'n Beer", pretty much from start to finish.
  • Sampled Up: The intro to "Honey, Don't You Want a Man Like Me?" features a brief two-note trumpet blare; this excerpt is best-known nowadays for being sampled in the "Skull Trumpet" video that was subject to Memetic Mutation on the internet.
