YMMV / Lady Emily

Go To

  • Fandom Rivalry:
    • Some fans of Nostalgia Critic and Demo Reel dislike her videos for being so critical towards Doug Walker and his content.
    • She also maintains a strong one with Quinton Reviews after she accused Quinton of sexual harassment in the past, with fans divided between those who believe and don’t believe Emily.
      • Happened again when she accused Chuggaaconroy of sexual misconduct, even when Chuggaa himself admitted to it.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • With Sarah Z, as Sarah and Emily are close friends and Emily co-writes her videos.
    • With Izzzyzzz, another video essayist who makes videos about strange aspects of pop culture.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In The Failure of Channel Awesome's Demo Reel, Emily states that Doug Walker is forever forced to be the Nostalgia Critic, never escaping the role no matter how much he wants to move into new directions. She describes the Nostalgia Critic as a purgatory. This ends up being the exact plot of the reboot video for Demo Reel, where Doug is trapped in a purgatory, forced to be the Critic forever and tormented by his past failures.
  • Memetic Mutation: "So they decide to feed Rebecca Sugar…" Explanation
  • Offending the Creator's Own: As stated by Sarah Z in her "Homestuck Sent Me a Legal Threat" video that was co-written by Emily, when they announced the Homestuck video, a writer affiliated with Homestuck told Sarah and Emily to "die" because they planned to speak about the franchise's trans representation. While Sarah is cis, Emily is a trans woman, and Sarah repeats frequently in her Homestuck video that the section on trans representation was entirely written by Emily. Emily herself addressed the issue more directly in Sarah's "MorMor and Fanon" video.
  • Parody Displacement: More like Criticism Displacement, but her initial Demo Reel video was popular enough that it eventually gained more views than every episode of the original Demo Reel series combined by a country mile.
Emily: Is it...possible to ratio a YouTube series?
