  • Crack Pairing: Mechakara/Eight is something of a Running Gag. The tension in-game doesn't hurt, either.
  • Fountain of Memes: The Oppenheimers, due to being the first "family" to get more than one PC member.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Suddenly, Dr. Owens' harshness towards her patients makes a certain amount of sense. Her own husband fell into a coma.
  • Iron Woobie: Dr. Kwan, full stop.
  • Memetic Badass: TRISTAN CARINO, FIRST OF THE MEMES. Yes, it must be in all caps, and is always followed by something.
    • TRISTAN CARINO, PRIVATE EYE
    • TRISTAN CARINO, LATINO LOVER
    • TRISTAN CARINO, VAGUELY EUROPEAN
    • TRISTAN CARINO, MAN OF DANGER
    • TRISTAN CARINO, MAN OF SWARTHY PERFECTION
    • TRISTAN CARINO, MAN OF MYSTERY
    • TRISTAN CARINO, PATRON OF THE ARTS
    • Li Oppenheimer. It helps that his PB is The Rock.
  • The Scrappy: Lisa Owens. She's a Dr. Jerk Bad Boss who regularly uses her position to threaten and abuse her patients. She's also a Karma Houdini to boot. However, she's getting some much-needed character development, and is starting to show signs of being Rescued from the Scrappy Heap.
  • Stoic Woobie: Arthur Oppenheimer. His brother goes insane and tries to kill his nephew, he exhausts himself (to the point of being hospitalized) trying to save as many people as he can from the bombs, and he allows himself to be nearly killed by his brother in order to save Casey. Does he ever complain about it? Nope.
  • Tear Jerker: Quite a few by now.
    • Pretty much the whole of the first Wham Episode is a combination of this and Nightmare Fuel. Examples include:
      • "You've been such a hero and I'm proud of you today...but you can't keep this up any longer or you'll hurt yourself. You can't save everybody...I'm sorry." —Rob to Liz after Chloe's house exploded.
      • Chloe's attempts to save everyone in her apartment, which culminate in her not being able to get out in time. And as it turns out, she's the Morality Pet to an awful lot of people...
    • Liz and Dr. Kwan's conversation after the revelation of his arrest and near death in 2007 for treason is pretty much a repeated stabbing in the heart.
    • Lisa Owens gets a Fridge Horror version of this in her backstory. Before the incident, she was Happily Married to Arthur Oppenheimer. Then she went under deep cover, where she forgot herself. And let's not forget that her husband fell into a coma as a direct result of the incident. Furthermore, there are signs that she may not have been very happy about going under cover.
    • Think Casey Oppenheimer has had enough? Apparently not; in recently decided backstory, Casey had a fight with his father right before the Incident, accusing him of not even caring that Layla Oppenheimer had died, since Jesse didn't seem to show any emotion at all about it. What he didn't know, however, was that Jesse had been grieving the entire time, but only internally, trying to put on a strong front for his son. And the novel he had been writing that Casey didn't give the time of day? All inspired by Layla and written as a release of Jesse's pent-up emotions about their divorce and her death.
      • In light of all that has come to pass however, Casey has shown more interest in the novel and guilt about how he behaved around his father. Just wait until he finally reads it...
  • The Woobie: Quite a few of the npcs could be considered woobie-worthy given the situation, but some stand out more than others.
    • Robert Robinson. Having someone you love suffer an accident is bad enough as it is, let alone being diagnosed with DPD, but his girlfriend Sally seems convinced that she belongs in the world her mind created (with another man, no less) and refuses to communicate with Rob at all. His desperate attempts to reconnect with and help her and guide them both back to their normal life is just heartbreaking.
    • Dr. Ang Kwan. How does that man put up with his boss? Honestly? On top of being arrested for treason and nearly put to death back in 2007. For SAVING A LITTLE GIRL, no less!
    • Casey Oppenheimer. Let us count the ways...
      • His mother died in a car accident
      • He witnessed both his father and his uncle collapse after the Incident, leaving him alone and scared.
      • His father came back Ax-Crazy and tried to kill him along with the abducted Sally Ross.
      • His father later came after him and his uncle in their home.
      • He watched Robert Robinson transform into a monster during the August plague, then became a monster himself.
    • Luckily, his uncle is there to help pick up the pieces.
