  • Critical Dissonance: It had a favorable reception among audiences but received mixed reviews from critics.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Given Kyle's behavior and hints about his past, it's very possible he suffers from some form of PTSD or low-empathy disorder.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: While Jonty and Leila hook up in the show (briefly), most fans prefer Leila and Tess and express disappointment about the bait and switch. It doesn't help that they have vastly more chemistry than the former couple.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Tippi is fanatically loyal to Adrian and reacts poorly to anyone who even hints they disagree with him. But she also has a few moments of emotional vulnerability that reveal how deeply lonely and insecure she was prior to joining Red Pill.
    • To some degree Tess as well—clearly she is struggling with bipolar disorder and her crumbling real life relationships, but then, a good deal of that damage was done by Tess, from failing to pay back large sums of money to friends to destroying her roommates' property in fits of anger. However, little of Tess' behavior seems intended to be malicious, unlike Tippi.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: The bright and picturesque animation from inside Azana (depicted in a lot of the promotional images) and the youth of the main cast might fool you into thinking this is a kids show. It very much isn't. There's copious drug use, several sex scenes and a fair amount of frontal nudity, violence and swearing. And two youngsters (including a 14 year old implied to be molested) are talked into killing themselves. Bizarrely, it took flak from critics who thought it failed at engaging older audiences.
  • The Woobie: Pretty much all of Red Pill, with some fitting neatly in Jerkass Woobie territory. Despite all the things they do, which range from questionable to completely horrible, it's all the result of being so desperate for belonging and understanding that they're easy to manipulate by whoever shows them a little kindness.
