YMMV / Kid Cudi

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The Beavis and Butt-Head sketches scattered throughout Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven, made even more shocking since Mike Judge himself actually provided the voices of the characters.
  • Broken Base: Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven. Fans will either love it for its weird noisy rock experimentation and depressing lyricism, or absolutely despise it for pretty much the exact same reasons, what with Cudder's bad singing, the rudimentary songwriting and overall bland guitar work, and the quality of the lyrics being very questionable. note  Also the matter with the aforementioned Beavis And Butthead interludes.
  • Funny Moments: The music video for the Crookers remix for "Day n' Night".
  • Harsher in Hindsight: On "Soundtrack to My Life", he mentions struggling and considering trying cocaine. In between his first and second albums he briefly became addicted to cocaine.
  • Memetic Badass: Cudi became one around The Needle Drop's fanbase due to being the only artist to ever both receive a 0/10 (for Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven, the lowest score Anthony Fantano has ever given) and an exceedingly rare 10/10 (as part of Kids See Ghosts alongside Kanye West and their self-titled album).
  • Memetic Mutation: "No more chicken sandwiches, yes I'll pay for the damages."
    • His signature humming and yodels.
    • “Nigga, the cops outside.”- from “The Scott’s” with Travis Scott.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Again, his trademark hums, particularly the one from "Reborn" off Kids See Ghosts.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • A few songs off of Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven may be this, such as "Embers", which is about his father passing away.
    • In October 2016, Cudi revealed that he checked himself into rehab due to depression and suicidal urges. Gives a whole new context to both Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven and Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin', now does it?
  • Win Back the Crowd: Compared to Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin' has received far more acclaim with its back-to-basics sound. If audiences still weren't won over by it, they definitely were with the release of Cudi's Kanye West collaboration Kids See Ghosts, which became his most universally-praised album since Man on the Moon.
