YMMV / Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Mega Max

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Lem Kannagi/Super Galaxy King is a member of the insidious Foundation X and wishes to use the power of the Astro Switches and the Core Medals from the future to become an all-powerful being. He will do absolutely anything to accomplish this, while taking a sick glee in rubbing his advantage in the faces of his enemies whenever he gets the chance. He essentially kills Gentaro's girlfriend, Nadeshiko for the SOLU she's composed of, and then rubs that fact in Gentaro's face. He also had no problem killing anyone that gets in his way without an ounce of remorse, or creating clones of all the Greeed and Sonozaki Dopants for his own evil purposes of ruling all of humanity.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Kengo's dismissive attitude towards Nadeshiko becomes this after one sees the ending of Fourze since Kengo himself was never really human this entire time. In fact, Nadeshiko's arc and everything about her — like the fact that she was a substance from space who copied a human form — is eerie Foreshadowing about Kengo himself.
    • The Ankh who came from Michal Minato's future acted rather indifferent towards Eiji, but the fact that he existed provided his old friend hope that the two will properly reunite in the future. Exactly 10 years later in real life, Ankh did get revived, but not only at the cost of Eiji's life, it also brings an ominous implication that Ankh's indifferent attitude in Mega Max was simply him trying to spare Eiji (and to a lesser extent, the inhabitants of year 2011) from what is to come.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight Eiji’s reunion with Ankh takes on a somewhat more bittersweet tone come Core Medal of Resurrection which makes it clear that Ankh is also seeing him again after seeing him die. This movie predates that one by ten years, but Word of God was that the latter’s ending was in mind when writing this one.
  • Strangled by the Red String: The Gentarō × Nadeshiko romance, while undeniably adorable, arguably falls into this, seeing as the otherwise Chaste Hero Gentarō falls in Love at First Sight with her before she even speaks a word and she is a Blank Slate before reciprocating his feelings. Too be fair, the Nadeshiko in this movie is actually space slime who copied the appearance of a girl so she doesn't know anything about what it means to be a human.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: To the two previous Movie War films, especially Movie War Core.
  • Tear Jerker: Gentaro accepting Nadeshiko for who she was...and then Kannagi kills her and rubs it in his face. You can't blame Gentaro for the Heroic BSoD that comes afterwards.
    Gentaro: NADESHIKO!!! (cue Skyward Scream)
  • Tough Act to Follow: With the possible exceptions of the Heisei Generations movies, all the Kamen Rider crossovers since this have been seen as widely inferior - while Gaim × Wizard and Drive × Gaim are seen as decent, although inferior to this film, Movie War Ultimatum and Super Movie War Genesis are hit with this hard.
  • The Woobie: Gentaro becomes one after he sees Nadeshiko dying in front of him, unable to do anything except scream in agony of losing what would've been his first love. He truly deserves a hug.
