YMMV / Kamen Rider OOO 10th: Core Medal of Resurrection

Go To

  • Ass Pull: The explanation for how Ankh finally came Back from the Dead ends up being that Eiji wished for it right before he died, which fuelled a desire strong enough to resurrect Ankh. Nowhere in OOO, including supplementary material, has the power of Desire been shown to be remotely capable of doing such a thing.
  • Base-Breaking Character: The real Eiji's portrayal in the last leg of the film is either a wonderful conclusion to the character that caps off his themes of self-sacrifice or it's a limp send-off that validates/exaggerates the very hyper-sacrificial Death Seeker tendencies his Character Development was about quashing.
  • Broken Base: The V-Cinema as a whole is subject to some heated debate surrounding its quality. Is it a worthy return to the world of OOO, allowing us one last, touching adventure with the cast? Or is it a rushed story with nothing but wasted potential that missed what made the TV series so great? The V-Cinema has drawn unsavory comparisons with the earlier Zero-One Others duology, largely due to its darker tone and a perceived walking-back on the themes finalized by the TV series.
    • Especially controversial is the startling decision to have Eiji sacrifice himself for Ankh's return. Is it a solid, heartrending decision that falls in line with his character and the themes of desire that the series has at its core? Or is it a sloppy, needlessly bleak writing choice that disregards the growth he undergoes as part of his character arc?
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: Part of the criticism of the movie is that it feels too short even by V-Cinema standards, largely due to the time constraints and the fact that aside from the main cast, there's little time to flesh out everyone.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: After Kamen Rider Saber: Trio of Deep Sin broke two trends in V-Cinemas that fans have been complaining about, they came back with a vengeance in this film.
    • A Rider getting a new Super Form (Birth X in this case) ends up failing to do any significant damage in their fight.
    • The film pulling a Happy Ending Override with Eiji's death.
  • Only the Creator Does It Right: Several detractors of the film have taken notice of the fact that OOO's original head writer, Yasuko Kobayashi, was not brought on to write the film and that it was instead helmed by Nobuhiro Mouri, a secondary writer who's worked on multiple Rider series including OOO, and believe the film would have been much better if she had done it instead.
  • The Scrappy: Goda is heavily disliked for his role in the movie, even among those who find the concept behind him interesting. While the idea of an artificial Greeed born from Eiji is an interesting idea, many fans feel that Goda is a poor execution of the concept that only serves to take up time that could be spent on members of the film's large returning cast, in particular the fact that he blocks a proper reunion between Eiji and Ankh from happening for most of he movie.
  • Tainted by the Preview: A wide number of fans were put off by the leaks about Eiji's death, feeling it's a cruel twist for fans who wanted a proper reunion between Eiji and Ankh.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • The four Greeed get little to do in the film. While Uva gets one proper fight against one of the Riders, apart from the beginning where they're seen helping the ancient OOO rampage, the other three don't do much in the film besides sit around the ancient OOO's base and their main contribution to the plot is when the ancient OOO consumes them for his One-Winged Angel form.
    • The Ancient King OOO himself doesn't have his character fleshed out very much from what we knew of him before, and for the most part just serves as a nebulous threat our protagonists need to fight.
    • A new character, Goda, is established as an artificial Greeed born entirely from Eiji's immense desire. Despite being born from Eiji, he exhibits no positive traits in his brief screentime and is based wholly from Eiji's want for power, with none of the good behind it. After a brief fight, he absorbs King OOO and immediately takes his place as the Final Boss, with little else to be said for him. Some fans have expressed wishing his fairly entertaining dynamic with Ankh was given more screentime, while others have wished he were redeemed in the same way Ankh was, especially considering he has a connection with Eiji himself.
      • One of the other reasons people grew weary of Goda is him effectively barring Eiji from his own movie.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • After waiting a decade for a reunion between Eiji and Ankh, many fans are disappointed that the two only get a chance to interact at the very end of the movie for a brief moment before Eiji dies, and wish they would have gotten to spend time together for longer.
    • Musically, they wasted a perfectly good opportunity to reuse the Insert themes. Many fans were quite disappointed that they did not use Time Judged All when Tajador Eternity debuted.
    • Despite The King and Ankh's established connection, their interactions are brief and underplayed; The King instead setting his sights on Goda on first contact. Nothing is done with that connection whatsoever beyond establishing it, as if Ankh didn't already have a reason to oppose the King.
    • We also never get a proper Eiji vs. Ancient King OOO fight, as Eiji is possessed by Goda for most of the movie, and is only freed after the King's death.
    • Goda for all his connections to Eiji, never truly gets to bounce off of them in any proper capacity. Ankh gets an entire scene where he sees his friend again but Eiji never has a direct verbal exchange with the one that took him over before or after, missing a chance to give the Final Boss battle a bigger context.
