YMMV / Kaamelott: Premier Volet

Go To

For the series, see here.

  • Continuity Lock-Out: Even though Alexandre Astier said the film was made for fans and neophytes alike, the large cast might still cause confusion for people who aren't familiar with the series to get a clear picture of who some of them are and what their role was under Arthur's reign. Also, there's The Stinger with Méléagant's return. People who haven't seen the series will surely wonder who the hell this guy is.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Arthur is noticeably nicer to Guenièvre than he ever was in the series, first deciding to free her from the tower as soon as he learns she has been imprisoned here for 10 years, then accompanying her when she decides to go back there to retrieve a lucky charm of hers (which was the crown of flowers Arthur gave her at their wedding) and finally climbing the tower because she thought it was romantic, followed by giving her The Big Damn Kiss, for the first time in the history of Kaamelott.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: The series' brief horn leitmotif, which opens the film. Fans haven't seen new live-action Kaamelott material in twelve years and it just could not open without it.
  • Trapped by Mountain Lions: Arthur's Played for Drama flashbacks as a teenager have no relevance on the main plot and are little more than a distraction even in-universe when one prevents Arthur from killing Lancelot (though they might set some things up for a sequel, that's in Wild Mass Guessing territory for now).
  • WTH, Costuming Department?:
    • Lancelot's king outfit comes off as particularly impractical and just plain ridiculous (though the latter effect is very much on purpose).
    • Also, dishonorable mention to Lancelot's royal guards, who look like refugees from Oz.
